Title: Cheapest Android phone…and good at that!
Review: Its the cheapest android phone in India & I must say its a bang for the buck! I have been using the phone since 3-4 days & following are some initial views. Please keep in mind that you’re paying less than INR 6k & set expectations accordingly.Pros:1. Good display – though its not more than 480/500 nits, I didn’t have any trouble using the phone outdoors. Of course, you may struggle a little if under direct sunlight!2. Good UI by Itel – very user friendly & good customization options3. Fingerprint sensor & face recognition – I’m amazed at the speed everytime I unlock the phone. Its instant! Same with the face unlock feature, which is accurate & fast. Such good performance on these unlocking options are not expected in a sub 6k device, hence am pleased.4. Itel’s own dialer with call recording feature (pls use cautiously & inform the opposite person if using)5. No issues using any apps, even some power hungry ones such as banking/finance & basic games (with the memory fusion option). My phone is loaded with apps without any challenges.6. Sufficiently loud speaker, even while using during calls7. Though the device doesnt have a secondary noise cancellation mic (which one cant expect at this price), feedback received from people is that the surrounding noises are not interfering with conversations & that my voice can be heard clearly8. Android 14 (Go edition) in a world where some companies are yet offering Android 13 on budget devices9. Memory expansion option with a dedicated SD card slot10. Looks – excellent looking device & the best part, the charging brick & a fantastic looking cover is in the box. Also come with a pre-applied screen guard hence no need to spend even a rupee additional.Cons:1. Charging speeds – Though one shouldn’t complain about the 10W charging, it could have been better. However, keep in mind that others are providing a 10W charger even with phones in the INR 10 to 15k category these days before complaining. At the end of the day, its not as slow as I expected, hence can be ignored.2. Slightly sluggish due to 3 GB RAM & not usable unless you expand the memory using the Mem Fusion option, however not complaining again since I picked it up very well knowing the price I’m paying & the specs that come with it. In summary, it operates fine for basic calls & messaging apps – just doesnt keep the open apps in memory i.e. while multitasking, the apps will reset hence maybe a minor inconvenience to some.3. Camera is just average hence do not expect anything if you intend to use this as your main device. However please note that I never had any issues while using payment apps, QR code scanning, etc.In summary, its good to see that companies like Itel are focusing on providing inexpensive smartphones & such value for money devices which makes it accessible even for folks with low incomes. Keep it up!
